Yorkshire Terrier Facts and Rescue Information

Yorkshire Terrier Facts - Love Yorkshire Terriers? Is a Yorkie The Right Dog For You?

Adorable Yorkshire Terrier With Loving Owner Yorkshire Terrier Facts --- "Yorkies" as they are affectionately called, are the Number One Favorite Dog in the Toy Breed class. And no wonder. One look at a Yorkshire Terrier Puppy, and you'll fall in love with its angelic face.

Yorkshire Terrier Fact --- So tiny ---they weigh between 4 and 7 pounds. They grow to around 7 inches in height.

Like other terriers, Yorkies are enthusiastic and high-energy. They are a lot of dog in a very small package. Even former "big dog" owners, may like a Yorkie's confidence and fun personality.

Yorkshire Terriers are a wonderful breed for apartment dwellers...

Think about this...when you're as small as a Yorkie, it doesn't take a lot of exercise to stay fit. So even people who are unable to take their dogs for walks can keep their Yorkie fit and trim just hanging-out around the house.

Yorkies are an excellent choice for apartment dwellers.

Yorkshire Terrier Fact - They Shed Very Little...Good Choice For Allergy Sufferers

Another Yorkshire Terrier Fact is that they have beautiful coats with long and luxurious fur. But shedding is minimal.

The hair on top of their head is very long, and that's why you'll often see a Yorkie with a topknot. It's simply a way of keeping the hair tidy with a ribbon or band.

I wanna go with you...please!!!

Yorkies need daily brushing. And they are good travelers...which is why you'll often see them at bed and breakfasts and on airplanes. Yorkies love having adventures with their owners.

They fit easily in a carry-along bag. Lucky you if you can take your dog on trips, errands or doing business...

Even smaller - breeders offer "Teacup" Yorkies - which weigh only 3 or 4 pounds. And some breeders offer "Tiny Teacup Yorkies" which weigh only 2 to 3 pounds when full grown.

Your Vet will pay special attention to your Yorkie's teeth, which are prone to decay.

Your Vet will also examine your Yorkie's spine, because it is vulerable. Remember --- don't allow your tiny Yorkie to be handled roughly. Even a toddler can hurt a Yorkie, so children must be supervised around small animals.

Are they good watch dogs? You bet they are. They are brave and loyal, and will really make a fuss if someone knocks on the door.

Training a Yorkie is relatively easy. They respond well to praise, affection and, of course, treats.

Some Yorkie owners will tell you that the little dog will try to "take over" if given a chance.

As it is with many small breeds, house training can be a challenge.
Yorkshire Terrier Fact: Having problems with house training? You're not alone with this problem...And you train your dog to please you. Here are more tips about house training...

Some Yorkie owners allow their dog to relieve itself inside the home on a mat, towels or even using a "doggie litter" box. There's nothing wrong with this option, as long as you control it.

One of the best tips I can offer is to remind you to withold drinking water at a reasonable time in the evening.

We stop all water at 7 PM, and our bedtime is between 10 - midnight. The dogs go out one last time before bed. And in the morning, by 8 AM, the dogs want to go outside to take care of their business. This technique has stopped almost ALL accidents.
