Toy Breed Dogs - People Love Their Companionship and Ease of Care
Toy Breeds of Dogs are beloved small breed dogs.
They are perfect City Dogs.
Toy Breeds of Dogs Are Very Popular - Easy To Care For, Adorable and Some Are Hypoallergenic
Toy Breeds of Dogs are wonderful Companion Dogs. Most have adorable personalities.
And they are also appreciated for their ease of care, relatively speaking. (It's easier to pick up a 10 pound dog than a 60 pound dog). It's easier to buy their food, and it's easy to take them with you wherever you go...
City dwellers, people who live alone, and those who want to travel with their pet, are most likely to select a small dog.
But the Toy Breed of Dogs is is not the only AKC Dog Breed Group that has small dogs. The adorable daschund is not found in this group, for example. Daschunds are members of the Hound Group.
As lap dogs, and companion dogs --- Toy Breed Dogs can't be beat.
But don't let their small size fool you --- most are also good watchdogs.
Even if your Toy dog can't protect you with their small size, they'll certainly warn you when someone is near the door. (Many would-be criminals says that hearing a barking dog, even a small barking dog, is enough to keep them away...)
Surprisingly, sometimes, families with young children should not select a dog from the Toy Breed Group.
The dog may feel competitive with children, and may bark, nip or bite.
Sometimes children, especially toddlers, will play too rough for a small dog. In this case, a golden retriever may be an ideal choice.
Small dog owners will tell you that everything about a small dog is minimized. How cool is that!!! They don't eat much, and cleaning up after they do their business is easy. Even if they are big shedders, their small size means there is less hair to shed, so housekeeping is not difficult. Good things come in small packages.
Always purchase a dog from a reliable breeder...
Toy Breeds, especially, have certain congenital defects. And their popularity is so high that some breeds are overbred. The result is high Vet bills, and a broken heart when your dog is ill or worse.
I warn you, there are added costs. You may decide to dress-up your cute dog in little outfits --- so be prepared to add-in extra costs for outfits, fancy collars, hair accessories, carriers, and more.
These are good expenses, though. Consider the joy you and your adorable dog will bring to others who meet you!
We have two dogs from the Toy Breed group in our family, a pug and a Bichon.
Pugs are the largest members of The Toy Breed Group. Ours is a girl, a sweet, dear, lap dog. Very strong for her size, she is a feisty risk taker, and always has been, even as a very young puppy.
The pug is friendly to all, loving and very loyal. A ridiculous kisser. Loves people and other dogs. Loves toys, chews them incessantly. Sleeps with owner and another dog in bed.
Negatives about the Pug: Lots of shedding. Was stubborn about house training. Wouldn't crate training, never got it. Still has accidents in the house; doesn't like to "go" if it's wet outside. Vet warned me she may develop breathing problems.
The Bichon is a boy. Sweet and fun lap dog, not as outgoing as the pug. A "momma's" boy. Adorable. Does tricks. Obsessed with squirrels and chipmunks. Wants to catch them. Has no interest in toys or chew things, but has never damaged anything in the house.
The Bichon was easy to house train and crate train. Not as social as other dogs in the house. Picky eater. Does not shed. Sleeps with his "momma" and won't allow other dogs near the bed.
Negatives about the Bichon: Very $$$ high grooming expense. May "mark" in the house if another male dog is visiting. Vet warned us that the dog shows signs of mild epilepsy. Dog is not medicated at this time.
I used to be a "big dog" person. I still love "big dogs", but I have to admit that a small dog offers a lot of advantages.
On of the best things about the Toy Breed of Dogs, for me, is the ease of taking the dog on trips and outings.
Remember, if you suffer from allergies to dogs, that most of the Toy Breeds are low shedding. Look for a low shedding dog if you suffer from allergies.
