Maltese Dogs are a small (4 to 6 pounds) member of the Toy Breed Class and # 8 in popularity in their AKC class. Small, non shedding and very intelligent, the dog's only shortcoming seems to be that it may get underfoot.
Cute, brave and eager, the Maltese is an ideal companion dog for city dwellers. This breed generally loves everyone, including children, but the dog's small size means that toddlers and youngsters may need to be supervised. They dog cannot handle rough play.
