Maltese Rescue Information

Tiny Tea Cup Maltese is an Intelligent Non Shedding Member of The Toy Breed Class

Maltese Dog With Coat Maltese Dogs are a small (4 to 6 pounds) member of the Toy Breed Class and # 8 in popularity in their AKC class. Small, non shedding and very intelligent, the dog's only shortcoming seems to be that it may get underfoot.

Cute, brave and eager, the Maltese is an ideal companion dog for city dwellers. This breed generally loves everyone, including children, but the dog's small size means that toddlers and youngsters may need to be supervised. They dog cannot handle rough play.

The Maltese's long coat must be brushed regularly to avoid knots. Some owners have their dog trimmed to a "puppy" cut, which is very cute, because this short-haired style reduces grooming maintenance.

Malteses have a long plumed tail, which is carried gracefully in the air. Many owners put their face hair in a top knot.

Their intelligence and desire to please makes them easy to train. This breed is easy to crate train, and their small size makes it easy to bring them along everywhere. Most stores will tolerate a small dog like the Maltese.

Like other small dogs, the Maltese must be protected from the elements. Keep the dog cool in the summer, and in the Winter, the use of a coat is essential in cold areas.

The Maltese is an ancient breed, and has had a long history of being treasured by aristocracy. Nevertheless, the dog is perfectly down to earth, and loves people, and loves to socialize.
