Dog Eats Ashes - Should you panic? Is this an emergency?

Dog eats ashes. It sounds bad, doesn't it?
Well, it could be.
My corgi liked to eat the volcanic rocks that are part of the floor of a gas fireplace log. But she didn't eat much, just a few tiny pieces, so it wasn't a problem.
But how about fireplace ashes, or worse, ashtray ashes from a cigarette or cigar. Yuck!
First - evaluate the situation by whether or not your dog seems ill. Call the Vet. The Vet will want to know how-much was eaten.
Ashes from wood and other plants are caustic.
Many dogs are reported to throw up after eating ashes. That's nature's response to a bad problem, and in fact, the Vet is likely to induce vomiting when your dog has bad contents still in the stomach area.
Bottom line: Keep ashes away from your dog. Ashtrays contain lethal poisons. Call your Vet...
