AKC Registry (American Kennel Club)
AKC Registry(American Kennel Club)is an easy process. AKC has a very detailed website --- and it contains all you need to know. For your convenience --- here's an easy link to it.
Why should you register with the AKC? There are a few good reasons.
1. You are a believer in the American Kennel Club's (AKC) Registry system, which keeps meticulous records about dogs.
2. You may want to compete in dog events or competitions sponsored by the AKC.
3. Or, if you intend to breed the dog, you should register. Dogs with AKC registration already in-place have a higher market value than dogs that are "eligible" to register. Why? Because the potential buyer is assured the dog's parentage is known.
Here's something new from the AKC Registry - it's an alternative --- for dog owners of unregistered dogs, called "Purebred Alternative Listing" or "Indefinite Listing Privilege".
It's a program that allows unregistered dogs to compete in Performance and Companion events.
According to the AKC... "If you have a purebred dog that cannot be registered with the AKC and have a desire to see what your dog can do in real competition, a PAL/ILP number is your ticket to the world of AKC events and clubs!"
There are many reasons why a purebred dog might not have "papers", including the dog was delivered to a shelter or rescue organization, and the whereabouts of the papers were unknown.
The PAL/ILP program allows the dog and owner a second chance at discovering the rewards of participating in AKC events.
A PAL/ILP Dog May Participate In The Following Events. Fun!
Agility Trials (All Breeds)
Earthdog Trials (Small Terriers and Dachshunds)
Herding Tests and Trials ( Herding Breeds, Rottweilers and Samoyeds)
Hunt Tests (Most Sporting Breeds and Standard Poodles)
Junior Showmanship (All Breeds)
Lure Coursing (Sighthounds)
Obedience Trials (All Breeds)
Rally Trials (All Breeds)
Tracking Tests (All Breeds)
If you enroll in the PAL/ILP program, entering your dog in AKC events is as easy as with a registrable dog.
The only difference is that instead of an AKC registration number, you would list the dog's PAL/ILP number on the Entry form.
How can you get a PAL/ILP number from the AKC?
Applications for enrollment into the Purebred Alternative Listing/Indefinite Listing Privilege can be downloaded or by emailing PAL@akc.org.
When requesting a form via email please include your name and current mailing address. Remember, PAL/ILP numbers can only be issused to AKC registrable breeds.
The following must be submitted with your PAL/ILP application:
Two color photographs of your dog - one showing the dog's face, and another showing the dog's full side profile --- not on grass, please. They want to see the dog, clearly.
You also need proof from your veterinarian that your dog has been spayed/neutered.
Mail a non-refundable $35.00 application fee.
Once compiled, the completed PAL/ILP application along with the items listed above should be mailed to:
